Medical Attention is easy to come by and most Americans and Canadians are surprised by the level of professional care provided. There is excellent medical care in Mexico.

An Example:  My wife died in Mexico. She had a complicated rupture of the large intestine. Nowhere could anyone have prevented here death. But there was every effort made and nothing was spared in talent, time, medication or work to keep her alive. That was on her second trip to the hospital for emergency treatment. The first was a carefully considered set of procedures that would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in the US. The costs for that was less than $40,000.  The second emergency ending in her death was only $15,000 and that would have cost us 150,000, I am sure.  Our US insurance carrier jumped at the chance to pay it. ....Name on file

This is not an isolated incident.

More and more, private hospitals are accepting insurance policies for payment, but it is essential to ask at the time of admission or beforehand, if possible. Your insurance at home in all likelihood will be accepted.

In selecting a physician or dentist, take the same precautions you should be taking in the States or Canada.

Dental care is MUCH cheaper and very professional with exceptional care to avoid pain.

Plastic Surgery: Available, great and cheap. Individuals from all over Europe, Central and South America and North America are coming to Mexico to "get things fixed."

Something about Massages: WEBMED

Fibromyalgia Treatment

Although there is no cure for fibromyalgia, home treatment can relieve some of the symptoms.

  • The most important therapy for muscle pain is regular, low-impact exercise. Keeping muscles conditioned and healthy by exercising 3 times a week decreases the amount of discomfort. It is important to try low-stress exercises such as walking, swimming, water aerobics, and biking rather than muscle-straining exercises such as weight training. Besides helping with tenderness, regular exercises can also boost energy levels and help with sleep.
  • Other home care techniques that help include these:
    • Heat applied to sore muscles
    • Stretching exercises (Pilates is one form.)
  • Massage

Swedish Massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It was developed by a Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling at the University of Stockholm in 1812. It uses a firm but gentle pressue to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation.

Swedish massage employs five different movements:
* long, gliding strokes
* kneading of individual muscles
* friction
* hacking or tapping
* vibration

The therapist generally uses massage oil to facilitate making long, smooth strokes over the body. Swedish massage is done with the person covered by a sheet, a technique called "draping". One part of the body uncovered, massaged, and then covered up before moving on to another part of the body.

Swedish massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports, deep tissue and aromatherapy.ABOUT SPAS

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.

Why get a Deep Tissue Massage?

It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.

What is the purpose of Deep Tissue Massage?

The purpose is to "unstick" the fibers of a muscle while releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, while relaxing and soothing the muscle. It is both corrective and therapeutic. DEEP TISSUE

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD)

A very specialised type of massage called manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is an important part of the treatment of lymphoedema. To be effective in treating lymphoedema, it is important to use the correct technique. The aim of the massage is to stimulate or move the excess fluid away from the swollen area so that it can drain away normally.

What is MLD?

Manual lymphatic drainage differs from ordinary massage - it is very gentle and aims to encourage movement of lymph away from swollen areas. MLD is particularly useful if there is swelling in the face, breast, abdomen, genitals or elsewhere on the trunk.

As this is a specialized form of massage, it should be given only by a trained therapist. There are four different techniques called the Vodder, Földi, Leduc or Casley-Smith methods. Therapists should be trained in at least one of these. Increasingly, MLD is provided by the NHS at lymphoedema treatment clinics. However, it is not yet available at all centres. If you are having difficulty finding a qualified MLD therapist, you can contact MLD UK, who keep a register of their members. MDL
